Sam Raimi's FOR LOVE OF THE GAME Set Report by Ducky

Well once again, the mighty DUCKY has come through, this time with his pal from beyond the pond, Mr Orange. They bring another on set report from FOR LOVE OF THE GAME, the Sam Raimi film starring Kevin Costner. I enjoy and love On Set reports folks, so... come on, share your story. I can't wait to see this film, and ya know... when we see the scenes that Ducky describes... well.. gosh.. you know we'll just smile and think of Molly Ringwald (sorry Jon).

Harry..it's Ducky here, along with his good friend Mr. Orange. And I'm going to give you a second report from the set of For Love of the Game.

So the weather in NY is getting chillier and chillier every day, so Mr. Orange and myself have conceded to bringing blankets and other paraphanelia to keep ourselves warm. By paraphanelia, which I think I'm spelling wrong, I mean heavy coats, gloves, you know the usual winter clothing.

Anyhoo...to the shoot...last week the shooting schedule changed from a 6am call to a 9am call and a few 11 am calls, which meant we went right into the late night hours, finishing up around midnight a few nights in a row. All I have to say about that is, New Yorkers at midnight, strange, yet amusing.

Kevin Costner was there most of last week as well, filming numerous shots from the mound, and signing numerous autographs for starstruck fans, which is really cool. One time he held up a shot for twenty minutes just to sign autographs. I call that a good samartin.

Kelly Preston was in tow on Thursday and Friday and we filmed some scenes with her in the seats right behind the dugout. GREAT STUFF. They filmed one shot with a bunch of female extras as Tigers's wives, saying, "GO DE-TROIT!" hmmm... I'm really intrigued to find out what role she really plays in this movie.

Some names to look out for, at least character names, which seem to be important are Davis Birch for the NY YAnkees, I think he's probably Costner's biggest rival,, Mickey Hart of the Tigers, and of course the Tigers's catcher, Gus Sinski played by John C. Reilly of Boogie Nights, Gilbert Grape, and the latest Jon Spencer Blues Explosion fame.

Perhaps the most intirguing thing to see this weekend were some of the shots that Sam Raimi was setting up, he set up quite a many "baseball point of view" shots, which should prove to look quite interesting on screen. Some have been filmed at 12 frames per second and others have been filmed at 24. So this is something I can't wait to see.

I know my first report seemed quite bitter toward individuals in NY and Kevin Costner, but that was just a first week impression. As I sit here now, I can say that the extras have become more personable, especially all of us behind home plate. We are known as the Home PLate Crew. I"m right behind home plate, wearing a yellow-ish shit, and I'm ASIAN. And Mr. Orange wears an orange shirt and a YAnkees hat, and he's right behind me. Just a thought so you know who we might be when the movie comes out, if you can see us.

And Costner is shaping up to be, not only a really really good baseball player, but a lot of fun to be around, and his acting isn't that bad either. Well, I haven't seen that much of that, but from what I've seen...

And Sam Raimi is a really good, down to earth personable guy. He knows how to joke with the crowd. The other day he said to us, "Did anyone lose a roll of 5 dollar bills wrapped up with a rubber band?" And everyone like rose their hands, and Sam says, "Well good, cause I have the rubber band."

Sam kind of looks like a cross between Peter Buck of REM, Reuben Blades, and Kevin Spacey.

Today they're filming locker room scenes so we weren't needed...

So Mr. Orange and myself have about a week left before things move on to Los Angeles, where I hope you can find someone to keep you up to date on what goes on there, because I really want to know.

The only thing that could make this experience better, at least MR. Orange and I have decided, would be autographs from Sam, Kelly, Kevin and John...but we'll see.

Oh, and about that perfect came that Costner is going for...I know the answer.....

until next time
