Quint's look at MEET JOE BLACK

Well you can read my comments, but just for a secondary opinion, here's Quint...

Quint here once again this time with a review of the newest Brad Pitt/Anthony Hopkins flick, Meet Joe Black.

Most of you probably know the plot of the film, but for those who don't, well I guess a quick summary is in order. Pitt plays Death who has become human for a period of time in order to experience the part of life he never gets to see, the actual living of it. He falls in love and then questions his place in the scheme of things. That's about all I'll say in regard to the plot. Go see the movie for the rest.

After being sick the entire day, I made the decision to utilize my Press Pass to Meet Joe Black, knowing full well that there were a lot of bathrooms at the theater, in case of an emergency.

The only reason I even bothered to go was because of Anthony Hopkins. I mean, Brad Pitt drama doesn't sound too appealing. I am not a big fan of Pitt's dramas. I loved him in Seven and 12 Monkeys, but those are incredibly weird flicks. Not even close to the trailers I'd seen for Meet Joe Black. But Anthony Hopkins is always cool, so I thought, "What the hell? It could rock and it gives me the opportunity to infect hundreds of people with my cold."

Well, I'll be damned if Meet Joe Black wasn't a damn good movie. After the flick Harry and I had a discussion about how this movie is being viewed by some of the more... ahem... foul-mouthed reviewers for this site in the wrong light. With all due respect to "The Mighty Joe," this flick is not a drama, like how I thought it would be before seeing the film. It is a romantic comedy. It has many dramatic moments (the love scene, the deaths of a few major characters) but it is a romantic comedy at heart.

I loved Pitt in this. He plays Death to perfection. You have to ask yourself "If I were a being experiencing life for the first time, what would I do? How would I react?" His facial expressions as he's experiencing new things, like eating peanut butter or a first kiss or eating a cookie or having his first orgasm, are just done to perfection. Hopkins is of course wonderful. I mean, he's the man. Everybody is great in the film. From the extremely cute love interest to that "Hey now" guy from Larry Sanders to the asshole-business guy to the old Jamaican lady. She and Pitt have wonderful conversations together in the film. Those scenes were probably my favorite. You'll understand when you see the film.

This is a great movie to take a girlfriend/wife/lover/boyfriend/significant other to. The romance is just oozing out of this film. Highly recommended.

So, Constant Readers, this is Quint once more bidding everyone a fine adieu as I sail into the sunset.
