Ol Pete's Dragon (Elliot was his name if memory serves) went into ol Rancho Cuckamongo or some nonsense to see THE POSTMAN. Warned against the cheese, which the Pheonix crowd scooped up with nachos, ol Elliot was ready. When Lo and Behold he loved it. Of course this just goes to prove you have to make up your own mind when reading these reviews. We'll see. I'm walking the line on this one. I'm not convinced either way yet. Could be crap, could be cake, I haven't tasted it yet.
On Sunday afternoon after seeing a screening of Mousehunt, I was asked if I would like to see a screening of a big Blockbuster Holiday movie, I got excited and thought....TITANIC? THe man said no and said it is the new Kevin Costner movie called The Postman...I was thrilled and said I would love to go(I guess I fit into any of their demographics). I made a slight comment along the lines of Didn't Costner direct it and the man said, "You are not spossed to know that". The Gentleman then asked my friend his occupation and he said, "I work for Disney!" to which the man replied, "no you don't...You look like a student!"I guess he wasn't too concerned with who went to the screening. WHen we got to the screening, THe line was around the Block. We waited for quite a while as we watched people get turned away because they already had enough people from their age group....I decided that I had better lie about my age when they get to me, I told my friend to say the same. When they asked me that crazy question to which I responded, "I am 32 sir!" He handed us our generic ticket and let us pass.......Next stop, the Metal detectors, This was new, never before did I have to get scanned, I was just glad i didn't have to deal with a cavity search.
Finally we were in the theater, and with my spare time to sit and think I began to wonder if one of the taped seats were reserved for Costner, I mean you would think the director would show up for his film, I decided to grab some snacks and when I went to go back in the theater they had made their announcement and started the movie, as I began to walk down the aisle, there was Coster standing in the corner of the theater..Cool, I wondered If I should tell him how much I liked Field of Dreams or why did he do The War...but I just went to my seat and watched the film...............as for the film.... .......No Spoilers.....
It Rocked!!!! What an epic, Costner finally is back on top. This film ran 3hours long and yet the time flew by, you didn't want it to end! Costner played a drifter who stumbles upon several fates. THis was a cross between Mad Max and Dances with Wolves! For a film in which the sound and color were not correct yet, It sure looked and sounded beautiful. THere are several great battle and action scenes that took my breath away. The female lead did a fantastic job and there were several great supporting actors who kept this picture moving. I also loved the humor that was included in the film, including a suprise cameo that I didn't expect! Will Patton played the bad guy....He was annoying, but then, I haven't appreciated any bad guy since Hopkins' Hannibil Lecter! If I had to rate this movie, I would give it an A-, as for anything I didn't care for in the movie......Well, The Rules scene at the End was a bit unrealistic! Besides that, It Rocked...One of the 3 best movies I have seen this year along with LA Confidential and Contact! This is one not to miss!!!!!
