William Friedkin to direct Jack The Ripper film' Or is it the Hughes Brothers'

In addition to the below report on the William Friedkin project you may wish to check out the VARIETY ARTICLE on the HUGHES BROTHER's Jack the Ripper project based on Alan Moore's FROM HELL which FOX just picked up!!!

Well, I don't know if I'd say William Friedkin hasn't done much since CRUISING as you can see from clicking on his name above. I Like TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A., but I know a lot of people that don't. But hey, that's off the point here. What is the point is it looks like William may be getting back into the creepy horrific filmmaking that very few have done better. THE EXORCIST may just well be my favorite pure horror film. I love it, and I always wish for the best from it's director. Let's keep our fingers crossed and our ears to the rail on this project... ok? Cool. Thanks, I knew I could count on ya!

Last week I went to a screening of the new print of "The Exorcist" here in London. After the show there was an interview with the film's director, William Friedkin. I know he hasn't done much since "Cruising" in 1980 but his next project sounds pretty cool. He mentioned that he is interested in making a film based on the recently discovered diaries of the man alleged to have been Jack The Ripper. These diaries apparently are authentic and contain details only known to the police and the killer. Anyway, his idea is to make a film from the point of view of this man's wife (who was dubiously convicted of murdering her husband by arsenic poisoning). Sorry if I haven't made that very clear.

If Friedkin recaptures his "French Connention" and "Exorcist" form it could be way cool, but this is also the man who directed "The Guardian" so don't hold your breath.

Everyone should go and see "The Exorcist" on the big screen, by the way, it is fantastic.

Simple Simon.
