I'm probably in a minority of dudes here, but I love Meg Ryan romantic comedies. Call em guilty pleasures... ummm yeahhhh that's it... I go because my sister makes me, uh huh, yeah right.... Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure. While JOE VS THE VOLCANO might have been (scratch the might part) a bit cornball, I really really liked it. From the flickering life draining too much blue flourescent lights that ebbed Hanks' will to live away, to the red headed Meg Ryan... And when I was in New York atop that Empire State Building, in between thoughts of KING KONG, I entertained a few glimpses of Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr and yes, even Hanks and Ryan. I'm a dye in the wool romantic, and well... I'm curious to see how this "Internet love" flick turns out. Here's a rosy cheeked film lover's opinion of the movie...
I have been a loyal reader of your site for over a year, and have never had anything to contribute- until now. Tonight, I was lucky enough to attend a sneak preview screening of the upoming Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan film, "You've Got Mail".
I have to say- it was a great flick. As a fan of the romantic comedy genre, I have been looking forward to this film since the early buzz when it was being filmed here in NY. I loved "Sleepless In Seattle", and was hoping for another wonderful film. This did not disappoint. I predict this will be huge when it is released in December. It will be THE date movie this winter.
It was a rough cut- the opening credits were temporary, the soundtrack would be changed (they said) and there were no closing credits. There were some very rough cuts visable. Despite this- I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed. It was not as predictable as I thought it would be from the trailers- I was surprised at some of the twists it made. Hanks and Ryan had great chemistry and the supporting cast was good as well- Jean Stapleton had a memorable, but small role. There were a lot of great NYC locations and some very funny "this is the 90's" jokes.
I don't want to post spoilers and ruin it for anyone, but go see this movie when it is released- it is a fun and entertaining movie!
That's it for now!
