Hallenbeck didn't care for it, but we've had a couple of people that have cared for it. But so far I'd say the word is mixed. Joe did tell me last time I saw him that "You'll probably like it." Hmmmm... Well here's one of the most ego-less writings I've seen in a long time. This poor person has very little self esteem it seems, so... I decided to post their look at the film.
hey you guys. sorry to bother you again. i realize my name is scum and i guess that precedes anything i have to say. i'm sure i'm doing everything wrong in writing you about what i've seen; but i'd thought i'd go for four straight emails that you guys decided sucked enough to not post (my constant failure would make my parents proud of my consistency).
anyways, enough about my patheticness, today i saw a trade screening of "meet joe black." i went in excited about what little i knew and how that held promise for me. the movie is about 2 hours and 54 minutes long and looks beautiful.. it is shot handsomely and brad pitt and claire forlani look spectacular throughout. to make things brief, i have to say i was majorly disappointed with the film and would summarize it as "bad."
in the end, it is unclear what the movie is about and it lacks cleverness and originality. even though the movie appears to be about the character of death, the character is never explored and nothing is made of his origins or purpose; and it is never fully clear why he chooses to become apart of anthony hopkins life. without going into huge details of the plot, there are lots of holes in the story and many unexplained developments and deadends in the storytelling. long talking scenes dominate the movie and help drown out any chance of interest from the viewer. yes, the new babe claire forlani looks great but that's not enough to build a movie around.
i realize you will not post this (so i can impress my parents with my ever impressive streak of failures) but i decided to brush up on my typing skills.
thanks for listening,
sincerely
scum
