Believe it or not, it looks like Tim Burton's doing SWEENEY TODD with Johnny Depp instead!

Hey folks, Harry here - seems Paramount is playing around a bit with the old game of Musical Chairs. According to Variety - it seems that the huge RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT project that Tim Burton and Jim Carrey were making together is being placed into "further development" while Burton makes SWEENEY TODD with Johnny Depp for Dreamworks - which is owned by Paramount. SO it keeps it all in the family. However, in the immediate sense, this mean Jim Carrey is going to be hungry for a damn fine comedy to shoot - while the rewrites that he and Tim Burton want on the RIPLEY project go forward. So it seems that instead of RIPLEY - we'll be getting a Stephen Sondheim bloody (literally) musical. I'm a fan of both projects - and have to say... after WONKA - to see Burton do a full fledged musical - could be delightful.
