I really feel this is the film to watch this year. I haven't been seeing a whole bunch of ads on TV for this one, New Line ought to push it a bit stronger, because the more people see it next weekend, the more walking advertisements they'll have, because this is gonna be one hell of a 'word of mouth' flick. The trailers don't begin to touch on the film. So here's a look at the benefit screening of PLEASANTVILLE that Jeff Daniels did up in Michigan today...
Just got back from a special preview of Pleasantville. It was hosted by Jeff Daniels to benefit his theater.
First off I would like to say that Pleasantville is definitely a worth while movie. It was actually pretty amazing. Pleasantville is possibly the most origanal movie I have ever seen, and one of the most moving.
I woke up this morning knowing that I was going to see Pleasantville and I was really excited. The show was at 6:30 but the doors opened at 5:30. Naturally I got there at about 5:00. I stood in probably the most crowded areas I had ever been in my life. The doors opened and when I walked in I surprised to find food for everyone to eat. I grabed a few snacks and went on my way.
I got to my seat. On the theater screen they showed old commercials from the 50s. It was pretty entertaining, and it made the time to Pleasantville pass quite quickly.
Jeff Daniels came out and said stuff about how he liked the movie a lot and how he thought that we will. The curtains opened and Pleasantville began.
PLEASANTVILLE
At first sight Pleasantville seems like an average movie. In fact, I began to think it was such after watching the first scene. But once the characters were in Pleasantville my perspective began to change. There is a certain tone to the film that is quit hard to explain. The movie picks up on the things about 50s sitcoms that you don't.
The acting is top notch, and Joan Allan leads the pack. Joan's character is really important to the story. She is afraid of what she is becoming and hides it. One of the most moving scenes is when Bud helps her put on makeup to hide that she is turning color.
The cinematography in this film is one of its best aspects. There are many parts in Pleasantville when I thought "How'd they get the camera to do that"
Ah, the special effects. Definitely the years best in the tech department. The colors, when next to black and white, seem to be so vibrant it's amazing. I never really appreciated color so much until this movie.
I loved this movie. It's really hard to explain stuff when you have to. See this movie and you won't regret it. It is my second favorite film of the year, Beloved being number one. See Pleasantville, it does everything a movie should do. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, and it just might make you think.
