Some of the most beautiful and haunting images I've seen this year on a screen were the shots I saw from the Dreamworks preview for IN DREAMS I saw waaaaaaaay back in March or so. I've been dying to hear back from you folks on it ever since. Please please send in reports on this flick if you saw it.
Hi, Harry, I had the pleasure last night to see the new Neil Jordan film "In Dreams" over in Woodland Hills, California. I know you've heard already a lot about it and I guess this was an almost finished print of the movie. They told us that some of the special effects were missing (but I couldn't find where!) and the music was temp. Anyway, it was great experience, the opening underwater scene is breathtaking, a small town is slowly flooded by "two billion gallons of water" and it's just amazing to look at and perfectly conveys the mood for the rest of the movie. As the water pours through every door, you get the sense that you won't be able to run away from what you're going to see next. It's eerie and mysterious, scary and fascinating. All the actors (Robert Downey Jr, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Rea) were great. The only thing annoying at times was Annette Bening, she gets a bit too hysterical sometimes, people in the audience laughed at her a couple of times - which I'm not sure was the hoped-for reaction. This movie (like every Neil Jordan movie) has great visuals but this one doesn't just have visuals, it has a great imagery. (There are some very disturbing scenes in this.) And the ending is just perfect, even poetic. A perfect last rhyme. This is the closest to a work of art a big production can get (no offense to Mr. Jordan).
Take care,
call me Crow
