Well Geeks here's someone who likes the new Trek effort. It's brief, but positive. Here's Nexus 9...
I am sure you are going to get slammed with info on this one. Star Trek
9 screened last night in the small theater at Paramount. NRG was of
course behind it but they were less "secure" than usual. This was a
rough cut but about 70% of the CG was finished. I have to tell you that
I find it hard to believe but this was actually a great movie! Most of
the great lines in the script were left in and overall this is a much
lighter film than First Contact. Don't get me wrong, there is still a
ton of good action sequences ( Worf has a serious bazooka). I was
afraid that a lot of the romance aspects of the script would be too
corny, but they played out well. The new ship designs were also very
cool. The alien craft were reminiscent of the attackers from Stargate.
Much of the film takes place on the planet surface, but that did not
seem to drag too much. Maybe my expectations were very low, and this is
no Wrath of Kahn, but overall it is a very well balanced film. A lot of
people are going to be surprised by this. IT BREAKS THE CURSE!!
