DIRTY DOZEN, the remake? Do they really think they can make a better film than the original?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm not against remakes as a general rule, but come on. Remaking THE DIRTY DOZEN? I have to admit a certain level of curiosity at who would be cast as the titular dozen, but alongside the recently announced remakes of BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID and THE WILD BUNCH... I don't know. I don't think there can be any possible way to make those films better. They are all perfect representations of film and the style of filmmaking from their times, classic stories told by master filmmakers, often considered the best films from these masters's careers.

There's a real lack of men's men in the acting business, you know what I mean? Who could they get for DIRTY DOZEN that could stand toe to toe with Lee Marvin or Charles Bronson or Telly Savalas or Ernest Borgnine or Jim Brown? The only star I can think of that is a man's man is Russell Crowe. There's one. Where's the other 11?

If you don't know the story, it's about 12 imprisoned murderers who are pulled out of their life sentences by a major to go on a suicide mission in WW2. If they complete the mission and live, all charges are dropped and they get an official pardon, a new chance at life.

Joel Silver will produce the remake for Village Roadshow Pictures and Warner Bros. They've hired Scott Rosenberg, with such frightful credits as KANGAROO JACK and IMPOSTER (but to be fair he also wrote good stuff like HIGH FIDELITY, THINGS TO DO IN DENVER WHEN YOU'RE DEAD and BEAUTIFUL GIRLS), and Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum (ALIAS) to team up and write the film. They will be updating it to modern times. I guess we'll have another terrorist hunt movie on our hands.

This is a bad idea. I really can't get behind this one.
