Hey, LA Film Freaks! This Friday At The Nuart! OVER THE Motherforkin' EDGE!!

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

If you don’t know OVER THE EDGE, then get your ass to the Nuart at midnight on February 10th, this Friday night, and bask in the glory of one of the best disaffected youth movies ever made.

Co-writer Tim Hunter (who also wrote the script for TEX, which he directed, and who also went on to direct the equally-classic RIVER’S EDGE as well as a ton of TV over the year including TWIN PEAKS, HOMICIDE, CARNIVALE, and HOUSE M.D.) and co-star Vincent Spano will both be at the screening. The real reason to go, of course, is the movie itself. For a long time, this one was hard to see, occasionally popping up on cable, but not available on laserdisc or DVD. Thankfully, Warner Bros. fixed that last fall, right around the same time they put out THE OUTSIDERS and Universal put out RUMBLE FISH. Great fistful of ‘80s youth movies. Of that trio, this is the one that plays out most honest, uncomfortably so at times.

This is Tim Hunter’s personal print that’s playing on Friday, so it should be in great shape. Maybe if enough people show up, Warner might even be willing to send this to other Landmark theaters in the future, giving people outside of LA a chance to see it theatrically. Remember... if you want the chance to see older films on the bigscreen, you have to actually get out and support the screenings when they do happen. Send the message to the studio... you want the chance to see these movies like this. Especially great ones like this.

You can click here for information about the film, or you can just head down to the Nuart in Santa Monica tomorrow night. I’ll see you there.

"Moriarty" out.
