Hey folks, Harry here... Ok... sure, I've no basis for the headline above... and reportedly this isn't seemingly meant to be a controversial take on Mary's life leading up to the birth of Christ. All we're told is that Catherine Hardwicke, director of THIRTEEN and LORDS OF DOGTOWN, will be giving Mary a strong leading female presence, and from a stand-point of making what she's going through REAL in terms of how a woman would react to the circumstances with which Mary finds herself in.
Oddly enough I once wrote an amazingly disturbing script along these lines once, that the less said the better. But think of it like this. This Mary girl. God just picks her amongst all the people on Earth to knock up. Sure, she had notice that it was going to happen, but she also didn't really have a choice. Think about it. You're a young virginal girl and GOD says, "Carry my seed," essentially. I mean, He might not have a gun or a knife... but did MARY really have a lot of choice. AND - now she's all knocked up. What'd her family think of that? What about her Boyfriend, Joe? How well did he take the ol... "God knocked me up, Joe" story? Well... again, I don't know if they're going to go into any of this, but frankly... that's the story that interests me. She knows what's going on... but what about everyone else? Do they buy it? Do they trust her? Or do they all think she's a slut having pre-marital sex without the sheep intestine condom?
According to Hollywood Reporter:
Mike Rich's screenplay follows Mary and Joseph's life before the birth of Christ as their love, faith and beliefs are tested. The script incorporates their departure from Nazareth and travel to Bethlehem and includes such biblical figures as King Herod, John the Baptist and the three kings from the Orient, among others.
