Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a look at the trailer for Kurt Wimmer's ULTRAVIOLET. I know this one has been up for almost a full day, which in internet time is like me writing a print article about Bush winning his second term, but I just had to create a talkback and link for those of you who missed this one earlier. I'm stuck in a backwards small town in Texas at the moment, so please forgive the lateness.
I'm not one who is automatically lubing up for Kurt Wimmer. I liked EQUILIBRIUM, but didn't think it was the godsend that a lot of people did. It was a cliched story told with a very sharp visual style and a great eye for action. And I also cannot forget Wimmer's involvement in turning Michael Crichton's great novel, SPHERE, into a throbbing, dull abortion of a film. I don't know how much blame to lay at Wimmer's feet for the script (I'm guessing Barry Levinson and Sharon Stone are to hold the majority of the blame... the casting director certainly did the rest of their job right...). And I don't think the trailer below is flawless, either. "Are you mental?!?" and a definite RESIDENT EVIL vibe keep it from being genius, but I just can't help but marvel at Wimmer's eye for action and production design. There's tons of cool shit in the trailer below. Enjoy!
