Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a link over to Apple's APOCALYPTO trailer. This is Mel Gibson's follow-up to his Jesus movie and I gotta say... it looks really damn beautiful. It's like Terrence Malick's THE NEW WORLD trailer had Darren Aronofsky's THE FOUNTAIN trailer's baby. But more weird is the fact that Mel Gibson himself appears in the trailer. No shit. In a flash you get Mel with his crazy Saddam beard leaning against one of the pasty white Mayans. Click the link below, watch the trailer... enjoy it... then go back and start frame-by-framing it right after those dudes with the torches run through the corn. You'll see. Thanks to "Kelly" for the heads up on that little factoid.
Gibson premiered the trailer at BNAT almost 2 weeks ago and he sent along a video intro where he was clean-shaven and totally unscary. This wasn't the Mel I had in my mind after seeing that scary beard pic and reading about his own creepy private Church where he preaches fire and brimstone every weekend. The Mel Gibson in the intro was humble with a great sense of humor, calling the audience Butt-Numb-ers and telling us to feel free to throw fruit at the screen if we didn't like the trailer. In short, he was the Mel Gibson that charmed the hell out of the world in the '80s and '90s. So, it's very strange to see the Crazy-Beard Mel posing with a Mayan in the friggin' trailer for the movie. All that aside, I think the trailer looks beautiful and the movie has me extremely curious. I'm eager to see what he's cooking up for us with this one. What about you?
