Mark Romanek has A MILLION LITTLE PIECES to get you excited about!

Hey folks, Harry here... It is amazing what is happening at Warner Brothers these days! I mean - look at is a company right now. They've got just a jaw-dropping line up of... not product, but actual honest to goodness gutsy amazing films to put in front of all of us. Well - first up is V FOR VENDETTA - soon you'll be reading Moriarty and mine's reviews for this amazing film. For me, the film is just a jaw-dropper. An absolute literal translation of one of my absolute favorite comic writer's best work. Then we've all heard that Alan Moore's best work just went back to Warner Brothers - and is now in the process of being set up. I can only pray to every entity taking prayers that the same team behind V FOR VENDETTA takes it on and make the greatest comic book film ever out of arguably the medium's best material.

Then there's Aronofsky's THE FOUNTAIN, Linklater's animated adaptation of Phillip K Dick's A SCANNER DARKLY, Zach Snyder's adaptation of Frank Miller's 300, Wolfgang Petersen's remake of POSEIDON, M. Night's LADY IN THE WATER and that tiny film by Bryan Singer, SUPERMAN RETURNS. And right now... Right now - I've just gotten word through the nefarious contacts I have throughout this awesome world of film - that Brad Pitt's Plan B and Warners are teaming up to produce Mark Romanek's adaptation of James Frey's A MILLION LITTLE PIECES!!!

No doubt the wildest, most unhinged ballsy and nervy recommendation that Oprah Winfrey's Book Club has ever pushed out there into the pop-consciousness of the nation. And the marriage of that title with Mark Romanek... Dear God - stabilize the foundations of Heaven, cuz this thing will shake the pillar above. Romanek taking on material of this emotional power - Well, I'm sure many of you know the story of this best seller... but for those of you living around campfires boiling pine needles in water for tea - here's the quick and easy version.

Personally - this is the film I dream of Jake Gyllenhaal landing the lead role in. You see - the central character is a 23 year old writer, who didn't hit the gutter, shit, he dove off edge of the world. Waking up with no memory, his front teeth gone, gash in his face - a world of pain... and then there's the withdrawls. Think of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST as the happy Disneyland tale of treatment. This is that quality - but a nightmare of experience and gut-wrenching cinematically soaked material for great actors and a great director to just unleash two sledgehammers of power on the screen. Hell - the dental scene alone will make "Is it safe?" seem like brushing your teeth. And I can't friggin wait to see who they cast as Leonard, the mobster, which Frey wrote a sequel novel for. It's that sort of role you'd love to see Deniro or Pacino or Rourke or Liotta to just unleash with. Now - if you think this is one of those touchy feely 12-step stories... that would be like thinking FIGHT CLUB was a story about male-bonding. It is, but it's sooooooo much more. And like Fincher with FIGHT CLUB, Romanek is perfect for this.

Pick up his Director's Label DVD - check out that JAY-Z video for 99 PROBLEMS or those two NINE INCH NAILS videos for PERFECT DRUG or CLOSER or that Johnny Cash HURT video. Especially look at those NIN videos. Now admittedly - I'm a Mark Romanek fan. I really loved ONE HOUR PHOTO, but completely understand why it didn't hook up with a larger audience. Here - this material - with this director will be absolutely prefect together. His eye for detail, the surreal anarchic nature of this story. I just can not wait to see how this comes to play here soon. The word I'm hearing from my acting friends is everyone is dying to play the lead character. No doubt - it's the stuff actors (and audiences) dream of. You all keep your ear low to the ground on this one. It's a film that needs to be on everybody's radar!
