Description of the SUPERMAN RETURNS Teaser!!!! Comes Online Tonight!

Hey folks, Harry here... I'm off to see WALK THE LINE tonight... So I'm going to miss the "premiere" of the trailer when it comes online tonight - Hopefully Moriarty will get it on AICN when it hits - if not, Quint or I will update when we get back from a lil Johnny Cash action. Folks - I've seen a lot of so-called descriptions of the trailer - and this is the first one that I actually believe. One - it's a prior spy. Two - this sounds right to what I've heard from folks working on the trailer that they were doing. I'm going to be slightly distracted tonight watching Joaquin... my geek heart will be thumping in anticipation of John Williams music, Brando voice and the last son of Krypton!

Hey Harry.

First, I’m glad my image of the KONG banner came out that good. I don’t know why it never dawned on me to get a picture of the actual One Sheet! Oh Well, at least the banner worked.

Just wanted to drop a line and let you know that the Superman Returns teaser is DEFINITELY attached to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! I just got back from an employee screening of the film in DLP at AMC Pleasure Island 24 in Orlando and I must say that aside from HP being an awesome movie, the teaser trailer for Superman is great! Working in the movie exhibition biz for 14 years, I have seen a lot of previews, teaser or theatrical. It’s a hard job to convey an upcoming movie without 1) showing too little, or 2) showing way too much. I usually prefer teasers that do just that, wet your appetite about what you are going to see. I was ecstatic at the outcome. There is no dialog other than Marlon Brando’s Jor-El speech from the original Donner film. I am referring to his speech that talks about “our capacity for good”. This voice over is done atop well paced images from the film. No annoying MTV quick edits, just enough to take in and grasp what you are seeing. The trailer has some cool visual images of the crashed ship, the Kent Farm, & The Daily Planet. There is a shot of Clark leaping across a field at the farm, as well as the one of him taking off straight up from the Daily Planet. But there is an awesome image of him flying slowly up above the clouds and as he hits center screen he is almost completely covered by an amazing sunset. The trailer ends as he is floating in space looking down at Earth. As we come over his shoulder we get a close up on his closed eyes. As Jor-El finishes his speech, “and it is for this reason, that I send them you, my only son.”, his eyes open and he shoots out of frame as the ‘S’ shield fades in. All of this and John Williams original score playing in the back ground had me absolutely giddy! I don’t care what anyone says about the costume being ‘gay’ or Routh not being able to fill out the suit, I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS ONE! I also hear that they will air this Thursday during Smallville, so keep an eye out!

As far as Harry Potter goes, I’m pretty much on sensory overload! I absolutely loved it. Sure there are things wrong with it, there always will be, but Mike Newell did a great job keeping this one dark just like the book. I think this one is a lot funnier than the 1st 3 as well. The audience I saw it with (big even for an employee screening) seemed to love it. SPOILER…Im glad they got rid of the SPEW thing, but I didn’t like the fact that they completely removed any mention to Crouch’s House Elf, Winky. END SPOILER Other than that, It has easily slid into 1st place as far as the films go. (It always was my favorite book in the series)

It was a busy day because I was also lucky enough to attend a word of mouth screening for RENT earlier this evening! Two great movies in one day! As a HUGE fan of the stage version, I must say I think Columbus did an amazing job translating such rich material to the screen. To touch on Sheldrake’s ‘dissertation’, this material is made for the screen. The emotional level of the film is almost double that of the stage version. It does also add a lot to see it in the actual setting of NYC and not just one set that has to represent EVERY aspect of the city. His interpretations of La Vie Boheme, Over the Moon, and The Tango Maureen were spot on! Who’da thunk that Mr. Home Alone could pull off such heavy material and not water it down completely! No Day But Today!

Well I know that’s an awful lot of info, but as I said, it was a busy day! You can call me Mr. ShowEast ;)
