Ahoy, squirts! Quint here... now in my review of HOSTEL I advised keeping your expectations at a reasonable level. As such, you may not want to read this review. It's a blowjob of a review and a big sloppy one, at that. And I was at this screening, too, so I can assure you that Eli Roth didn't write this, nor did any of his eerie kin. I know what they look like and they weren't there... So, this comes from a raving fan that willingly spent a weekend with us Austin AICN dorks watching genre flicks. Take it as you will. No spoilers, though. Enjoy!
Hey Harry,
Seen you at the Hostel premiere at the Drafthouse, you and your shirt of oranges, I guess your a fruity guy. First of all thank you for help bringing this film to Austin. here's my spoiler free review
I was not a big fan of Cabin Fever I thought it was overated. I saw the potential of Eli and knew his next film could raise the bar. Hostel is a giant step over Cabin fever, and now the bar has been set. Now if you are well versed in japenese horror or Takeshi mikke films, this film will not be as shocking. If your one that does not watch subtitles or ask Takishi who? you will have nightmares. The producer said it was not the finished cut, some music was not right or effects. I did not see that, it look completed. heres a few things about it that makes it a great horror movie.
1. acting- to many Horror movies cast bad actors and you feel nothing for them, this movie I cared for all of them and was cheering for the hero.
2. music-the music set the tone and drove the gripping scenes home, One of the best Horror music scores I ever heard.
3. The location - I was so there with them I wanted to go there. The look and feel had me and pulled me in.
4. I knew nothing about the story. It's better to go in like that, cause you are discovering everything at the same time as they are, when they run you wanna run, when they scream you wanna scream. I cannot go any further without spoilers, just go support this film so Eli can out top this with his next film. I think he can.
