Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some interesting update on the film adaptation of Steve Niles' vampires in the arctic graphic novel 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. It seems a director has been picked by the name of David Slade, most known for Stone Temple Pilots music video SOUR GIRL. He also directed a film called HARD CANDY that played Sundance to mixed reviews and is getting some kind of release at the end of the year.
The original comics have a unique visual style, kinda Dave McKean-y. It'll be a trick to adapt the style without totally alienating the majority of the audience, but if they can pull it off, keep the artistry of the book and mold it coherently into a feature film then they will have something special on their hands. The flick is being produced by Ghost House (Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's production company) who did the sub-par remake of JU-ON: THE GRUDGE. I'm hoping this one works. Like I said above, it could be great.
