A fairly negative review of I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER

Well, Garth over at Dark Horizons has a couple of glowingly praising reviews for I STILL KNOW... and along comes this fella that just loathes it. Well, heck, when the original came out some people hated it, some people loved it. So where is this one going to fall? Sounds like it's headed in the same sort of direction... some hating it, some loving it. Which basically means... Make up your own mind!

I recently went to a test screening of the horror sequel "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer". When I told my friend this, he ordered me to write a review and send it to you. He said it is the duty of anyone who goes to a test screening.

To understand how completely horrible this movie is, you first have to look at the making of it. The studio first offered the movie to Scream-scribe Kevin Williamson. Kevin turned the offer down and said that he couldn't take part in a movie that shouldn't be made. Then, the producers tried to cast General Hospital star, Vanessa Marcil, in the movie. They were close to a deal but then decided that Vanessa was too beautiful to share a screen with Jennifer Love Hewitt.

"I Still Know" is exactly the kind of sequel that 'Scream 2' exposed. It is more violent, gorier, and just plain dumber. The story takes up 2 years or so after the events in "I Know What....". Jennifer Love Hewitt of course reprised her role as Julia James. To fill the shoes of Sarah Michelle Gellar, the producers chose Brandy Norwood, who, proves that she is a horrible actress who will only reach success with her horrible sitcom 'Moesha'.

Brandy's main part in the movie is to get the entire cast away on an exotic vacation. And guess what, that is all you need to know of the plot. Then murder mayhem takes up the movie. The movie is filled with cheesy deaths, annoying dialogue, horrible acting, and Wannabe actors. This movie proves that Jennifer Love Hewitt is just a Neve Campbell wannabe.

The worst thing about this movie is that you just know it was not planned. Why would you kill the most memorable characters in the first, and leave JLH to try and carry the sequel?

One of the funniest scenes involves the cast at a cherokee type bar. JLH is on the stage singing along to words that appear on a television besides her. Then, the words 'I Still Know' appear on the screen and JLH stands there like a deer in headlights. But, didn't she see that coming like the audience did? Also, the best scene involves a long death (like SMG is the first). I won't say who gets it but the acting is so laughable I couldn't stand it.

The ending leaves the door open for a third movie. JLH has expressed interest in returning and plan to release it in December of 1999. Which is the same release date for Scream 3. But, would the "I Know What....." makers really commit suicide?
