Another Cool Toronto Film Festival Report!!!

I've never really been exposed to the crew from KIDS IN THE HALL, but I have friends that swear up and down walls of sacred Marx Brothers and Three Stooges tapes that there is a degree of talent there, plus a giggle or two. I've also been told not to hold Brain Candy against them. (apparently it causes a rash of some sort) Anyway here's a Toronto Update....

Harry, I was at the Toronto Filmfest last night and had a spectacular evening. First I went to the gala opening of Dog Park, directed and starring "Kids in the Hall" star Bruce McCulloch. (Also seen in the movie Brain Candy and the TV show "Twitch City")

It was a sort of romantic comedy, but also featured some demented humour that Kids in the Hall fans will relish. It's a good movie, funny all the way through, with lots of quirky coolnesses like Mark McKinney as a dog therapist. I would recommend this Canadian flick, I hope it sees a wide release.

Next, on to the reason you're probably drooling over this note. There was a midnight showing of Six-String Samurai that I had to see. Harry say it good, it good. So my friends and I got there pretty early, and couldn't believe the line up. The theatre was full.

Okay, now the cool part, across the street we see an entourage of people taking pictures of the cinema, and the line up, and themselves with the line up in the background. Instintly we expected people involved with thte movie. Could Jeffrey Falcon be here? One guy looked suspiciously like him, but all any of us had seen at this point were stills of a really dirty guy with Buddy Holly glasses.

Once inside, we noticed a reserved section, and carefully placed ourselves beside it. Soon the entourage entered, and the Falcon figure sat beside us. We carefully checked the photo in the filmfest program. I don't know, there's no mud on his face...and no glasses...no sword, no guitar. He looked over smiling, and there he was Jeffrey Falcon.

We talked to him for a bit before the film, and he mentioned a project they are working on (him and Lance Mungia) that is a cross between The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. A sort of everyone is out to get Santa and the elves movie. Sounds cool.

And now the supercool part, in the question period following the film, someone asked about a sequel. Well, as anyone who's seen it knows, the ending is fairly non-standard, and they said there were no plans for a sequel. However, they did give a brief synopsis of two prequels that they have planned.

The first is to be called "Guitar Wars" or something similar and will be about just what it says. It will take place just after the 1957 bomb blast.

The second is about a quest for the King's magical Blue Suede shoes (more Wizard of Oz imagery no doubt) involving the King's right hand man, Buddy, going to get those rockin shoes.

Well, hope that interests you, if you use any info from this, you can call me "The Subway Bear".

Oh yeah, Jeffrey gave us a copy of the Six-String Samurai comic by Rob Liefield. I don't know if it's out yet, but the art work is wonderful, and it looks like it's sure to be a hit.

I'm going to a showing of Apt Pupil later this week, and Pleasantville as well. So who knows, I may be able to ask Bryan Singer about furture projects.

See ya.
