AICN COMICS NEWS! SHOOT THE MESSENGER!

Dave Farabee here, and as we’re once again in the wake of a big ol’ comic convention, I’ve got enough announcements to choke Comet the Superhorse.

A lot of this stuff was already broken by AICN Comics’ own Ambush Bug, who was actually hobnobbing with the stars at WizardWorld Chicago. His report can be found here and has more attention paid to booth babes. I’ll be dispensing the news in “just the facts” form, though, and I’ve got all kinds of smaller announcements that need airing. I didn’t go to the con, instead swiping all this stuff from such delightful sites as Newsarama, The Pulse, Comic Book Resources, Silver Bullet Comics, and Millarworld. The links in the announcements will take you to their source articles, so click ‘em, damn you.

Amidst all those shiny announcements and creators going exclusive, the biggest news has still gotta be Wizard getting cowed out of their Atlanta show. Sometimes the good guys win, eh?

Beyond that, it’s good to see both Brian Vaughan and Tony Harris involved in adapting EX MACHINA to the screen. Bendis on a follow-up to FORTUNE & GLORY? I’d buy that in a heartbeat; loved the original. Phil Hester on a new book? Always a safe pre-order at your local shop. I’m also looking forward to DC’s BEST OF THE SPIRIT collection as I don’t have the bank for all those SPIRIT ARCHIVES. A “best of” sounds swanky for the comics fan on a budget. Weirdest announcement to interest me is those IDW side-projects with the Transformers. My Transformers nostalgia’s at an ebb, but I have to admit being impressed with how IDW’s taken the property and really gone out of their way to work up multiple crowd-pleaser concepts.

The two “must clicks” of the week are…

*Jess Nevins’ annotations on TOP-TEN: THE FORTY-NINERS. This guy blows me away with the amount of research he does for the fan community. Bow down before his coolness.

And…

*That Wizard fan film. Surprisingly hilarious if you’re geek enough to get all the references (I am).
