Hey folks, Harry here with a report over at Jim Hill Media on the state of DISNEY and their complete and total addiction to CG. Now, I like CG - but I also absolutely love traditional animation. But what's really interesting about the stuff you'll see over at Jim Hill... is that Disney is using CG to do some very very stylized CG. That stuff on AMERICAN DOG looks like late 1950's Disney animation, but in 3D. That bad guy is pretty damn awesome looking. That said, Disney has shut down their last 2D animation facility in the world. Hopefully, the new folks in charge will figure out that instead of micro-managing or totally giving up on traditional animation... that giving the animation unit the freedom to CREATE animated tales with the spirit and life that LILO & STITCH had - and taking their time on produciton... putting one out every 3 years or so with a core team of the absolute best DISNEY animators... and we'll get real magic. And stop killing the brand with knock-off sequels that make Disney animation look about as priceless and enchanting as gum on the sidewalk. I hope they're giving the 3D animation units that same sort of freedom to create magic. These artists are the real magic of that kingdom, and the execs should never forget that.
Not sure if you've seen this stuff yet, but Jilm Hill Media has a bunch of pics from upcomming Disney movies.
