Quint at Comic-Con: STEALTH with Foxx & Biel, SLITHER and RED VS BLUE!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a twofer that'll wrap up my panel coverage of this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Below you'll find pics from the surprise panel on STEALTH and a teeny tiny little bit about SLITHER, a panel I had to leave in order to do some one on one interviews (coming soon).

SLITHER

I'll start with this one since it's the shortest. SLITHER is a horror movie directed by screenwriter/director James Gunn (DAWN OF THE DEAD remake writer and TROMEO & JULIET writer/director) with a cast that includes Michael Rooker.

They showed a trailer that had lots of gore. It started with the names of classic horror movies like CARRIE, HALLOWEEN, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, etc, then went on to say that they were all pussies!

Maybe it was the arrogant intro to the trailer, but I really wasn't much impressed with what I saw. I seemed to be in the minority, though. Kraken, who took all my Con pics, thought the trailer looked great. It had lots of gore, but it looked like it was shot on video. I liked the effects work that I saw. Reminded me a tad of SOCIETY with that kind of radical mutated or deformed human thing going on and the image of a couple dozen alien zombie-making slugs crawling over a car window as the girl inside screams, little sluggie shadows crawling all over the car was really kinda nice.

I like a good old fashioned slugs create zombie movie, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised by this movie.

STEALTH

This one looks like silly fun. They surprised the Con by bringing in Rob Cohen (director), Jessica Biel (Con favorite), Josh Lucas and Jamie Foxx.

Foxx was given lots of love by the audience, but got a couple "You just won an Oscar for RAY. Why did you decide to lower yourself to this..." kind of questions. You know, the ones that take big balls to ask and make you look like an asshole to everyone in the room, however deep down everyone in the room really wants to hear how the panel will answer.

TIDBITS:

This was a short panel, but I got a couple nuggets of interest:

-STEALTH was shot on film, but there will be a 4K digital transfer for release into some digital theaters.

-Theatrical release will be 5.1 surround, with a DVD version possibly having a bigger, better mix.

-The effects budget alone for this film was $34 million. Wow.

CLIP:

They showed us a montage that was pretty exciting. You can definitely see every dime of that $34 million on the screen. I just hope they didn't show us all the plane stuff. It's hard to describe what exactly I saw... lots of aerial maneuvering, mostly. My favorite being a chase where the human character played by Josh Lucas is hot on the tail of the evil robot plane, machine guns blazing, but missing due to the plane's defensive flying. With a quick turn and reversal of engine power, the jet manages to swing behind Lucas and riddles his aircraft with bullets. Not enough to destroy it, but let's just say he's not feeling very good.

Lots more flying and blowing stuff up. Looks like fun.

Also, for you RED VS BLUE fans, I have a pic of the gang together. They were selling tens of thousands of billions of trillions of dollars worth of merchandising... DVDs, t-shirts, red and blue condoms, Chupathingy vibrators... well, maybe not the sex toys/products, but they should sell those and if they do I want a goddamn percentage or I'll sue them out of house and home! Here are those goofy bastards. Hope Bernie made enough money to pay off his poker debts, past, present and future!!!

That's it from me. Check out all my coverage... and be sure to keep an eye out for my interviews conducted at the Con, which will be up shortly!

-Quint
