I am – Hercules!!
Earlier this year the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave its Golden Globe for best comedy series to “Desperate Housewives,” signifying that “Desperate” is a funnier show than “The Venture Bros.,” “South Park,” “Arrested Development,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “Scrubs,” among many many others. Now the Emmys have nominated “Desperate” as best comedy series as well. “Desperate Housewives” must be funnier than “Fawlty Towers,” “Larry Sanders” and “The Daily Show” put together!!
No nominations at all for “Veronica Mars” or "Gilmore Girls." Two nominations, both for special visual effects, for “Battlestar Galactica's" first full season.
“Lost,” “Deadwood,” “24,” “The West Wing” and “Six Feet Under” beat out all the FX series in the best drama category (though Glenn Close got a nomination for her “Shield” work.
Other actors nominated in various categories this year include the great Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”), the great William Shatner (“Boston Legal”), the great Oliver Platt (“Huff”), the great Terry O’Quinn (“Lost”), the great Naveen Andrews (“Lost”), the great Tony Shalhoub (“Monk”), the great James Spader (“Boston Legal”), the great Ian McShane (“Deadwood”), the great Hugh Laurie (“House”), the great Kiefer Sutherland (“24”), the great Jeffrey Tambor (“Arrested Development”), the great Sandra Oh (“Grey’s Anatomy”), the great Stockard Channing (“The West Wkng”), the great Alan Alda (“The West Wing”) and Sean Hayes (“Will & Grace”).
I applaud all the nominees for “best variety, music or comedy series” (which I guess is now Emmy code for “chat show”): “Da Ali G Show,” “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” “Late Show With David Letterman” and “Real Time With Bill Maher.”
