Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Every year about this time, Capone pops up to do the same thing, and every year, it’s a pleasure to print it. Take it away, man:
Hey, everyone. Capone in Chicago with my annual bit of shameless self-promotion, but it¹s for a good cause. Every July in Chicago, creatures and demons crawl from the underground and make their way to Chicago for Flashback Weekend (present by Anchor Bay Entertainment), this year being held July 29-31 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O¹Hare in Rosemont. For a complete list of special guests, films, an event schedule, and a dashing photo of yours truly, CLICK HERE!!.
I¹ll be on hand as one of the co-hosts of the event, which again this year will feature a drive-in theatre for the evening screenings. Anyone who came to Flashback last year will remember how truly cool it was to was some of the foulest horror films outdoors with hundreds of other maniacs.
Among the special guests and events will be The Chin himself, Bruce Campbell serving in multiple duties at this year¹s Flashback Weekend. He¹ll be plugging his new book, ³Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way;² his new film (as co-writer, director, and star) THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN; and will be a part of the complete cast reunion of THE EVIL DEAD, along with the Ladies of the Evil Dead, Rich Demanicor (³Scotty²), and the just-added Ted Raimi, along with special effects master Tom Sullivan. The whole group will be introducing a remastered 35mm print of THE EVIL DEAD on Friday, July 29. I¹ll be posting an interview with Bruce Campbell sometime next week in advance of his Chicago appearance.
Also at the Friday night drive-in, HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES will screen, with stars Bill Moseley, Sid Haid, and Matt McGrory. Presumably the cast (along with another special guest Michael (THE HILLS HAVE EYES) Berryman will also talk at great length about THE DEVIL¹S REJECTS.
On Saturday, July 30, Chicago gets its first look at Bruce Campbell¹s THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN, which also stars Ted Raimi.
Also Saturday, the event I¹m most excited about: a 35mm print of John Carpenter¹s classic THE FOG, introduced by cast members Adrienne Barbeau, Tom Atkins, Charles Cyphers, and Nancy Loomis.
Bruce Campbell and Tom Atkins will also be on hand for a MANIAC COP cast reunion, featuring the Maniac Cop himself Robert Z¹Dar.
Also on hand at Flashback Weekend will be Tim DeKay, ³Jonesy² from HBO¹s sadly missed show ³Carnivale.² DeKay, Adrienne Barbeau and Bill Moseley will have a panel discussion about ³Carnivale.² David DeFalco, director of the disturbing grindhouse feature CHAOS (which will be screened as well for a smaller select audience), and one of the film¹s stars, Sage Stallone, will be in attendance. Camille Keaton, star of the controversial classic I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE will make a rare convention appearance. And we¹ll also meet with Italian horror film actress Corolina Cataldi-Tassoni, star of DEMON¹S 2 and Dario Argento¹s PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
Perhaps the feather in the cap of the 2005 Flashback Weekend is the FRIDAY THE 13th 25 Anniversary Concert. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of FRIDAY THE 13th, Ari Lehman, who portrayed Jason as a child in FRIDAY THE 13th, and Steve Dash, who played a pre-hockey mask Jason in FRIDAY THE 13th Part 2, will be on hand. At a reception Friday night, guest will be treated to a concert by Ari Lehman and his new Horror Rock band ³First Jason.² Oh yes.
The event will have its usual crop of dealers, panels with all of the special guests, and at least one more major film screening. See you there, my friends. These shows are always a blast.
Sounds good, bud. Have a great time!
"Moriarty" out.
