2001 MANIACS kinda fun' Check it and see, gotta death count higher than a hundred and three... well, not really...

Hey folks, Harry here... we've had incredibly negative reviews for this film - and some that defended the film as being a true kitsch horror indie. This fella seemed to really dig it. Here ya go - sounds kinda fun...

Hey Harry,

Big fan of the website, check it almost every day. I just got back from 2001 maniacs at the fantasia festival here in Montreal and I gotta say It was a pretty good time, the director Tim Sullivan warned ahead of time that it was a campy flick and that it wasn't meant to be scary so I knew right away what I was in for, plus I'd already seen the original Herschel Gordon Lewis version so I was set for some fun southern over the top gore.

The movie starts of generically enough with 3 guys going off on a road trip to florida for their spring break, when they take a wrong turn and end up in this small town, mayored (is that a word) by none other than Robert Englund, that seems to have passed under times radar and live like the amish. Lucky for the travellers, it's time for the yearly jubilee and because they so accidently stumbled into town, . They will be the guests of honor for the celebrations, them and the bisexual triangle that pull in after them followed by a black dude and this hot asian girlfriend. They are given rooms to sleep in, delicious meals and even some pretty girls to hit on but it all seems to perfect as one by one, the guests of honor start dissapearing. The story pretty much follows the original so those who've seen it know what to expect, lots of fun gore and nudity, most of the time in scenes together.

Most of the cast in the film is quite generic, you don't really care about them but the way they're dispatched is so much fun that you anticipate their demise to see what cooky ways they'll be offed. Robert Englund on the other hand is fucking great, he plays an amazing old timer southern gentleman style mayor with a rebel flag eye patch who just wants his town to have the best jubilee ever, no matter what.

Overall, the film was a lot of fun and the audience had a blast, cheered for all the killings and even cheered at the brief Eli Roth cameo which I won't spoil (if you liked Cabin Fever, you'll love his little cameo).

After the movie, the director had a brief QnA session w/ the audience where questions of release dates were asked. He said it was getting a limited run in theaters around october followed by a dvd release sometime in January.

If you like good ole fashion gore, spitting rednecks, banjo playing foguies and the like, go check out this film, It's totally worth it.

If you use this, call me Dr. Mambo
