DARK WATER fails to frighten this reviewer.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a look at DARK WATER from a screening here in Austin. I was going to attend this screening last night, but instead I had to deal with Time Warner people as they took 2 hours to figure out how to make the internet work in the house again. It doesn't look like I missed much, but I can guarantee DARK WATER is heads and tails better than the last movie I saw... :::coughFFcough::

The slow pacing... the abrupt ending... the lack of chills... Sounds like a pretty faithful remake of the original. Don't get me wrong, I liked a lot of things about the original DARK WATER, but it was all atmosphere with no pay off. I will end up seeing this, though. Connelly is still cute-cute-cute and I love the supporting cast of the flick. Enjoy the review!

Hey Harry,

I just got back from a screening of Dark Water here in Austin. I have never seen the original movie this was based on so I had a fresh opinion before going to see this film starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly. The trailer for this movie looked promising and I had hopes for a sleeper hit like The Ring a few years ago.

Unfortunately, I was deeply disappointed. The movie starts off extremely slowly with Dalia (Jennifer Connelly) and her ex-husband (Dougray Scott) having a custody battle over their daughter. Dalia moves to an apartment complex that looks very menacing, almost like a prison and moves into a unit that seems to have an upstairs unit with a water problem.

Like a good neighbor she goes upstairs to see what's going on. Almost an hour later into the film we are given an ending that is very anti-climatic and kept me going, "what the hell just happened?" There was a certain point at the end when the screen goes black and someone yelled "boooooooo." The rest of the audience seemed to agree.

A person at the exit was asking everyone how the movie was and I caught a glimpse at his notes. Most of them said sucked, terrible, waste of two hours, and such.

On a plus side, Tim Roth and John C. Reilly were very admirable as Dalia's lawyer and sleazy real estate agent. However, I believe everyone should stay away from this film because it is not scary or suspenseful. The scariest part of this evening was a trailer played before it was called The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Call me DirtyGoku.
