The Shylock files a little report on a big film. Most of the Geek Headquarters regulars have seen this feature, some of us months ago, and we all agree. It's great...go see it!
I had the privilege of seeing Peter Chelsom's The Mighty last night. This is an excellent film that blew me a way. It's about the relationship between Max Kane a big and shy kid and Kevin a crippled kid played by Kieran Culkin. It follows there adventures, hard ships, and conquests. This movie is really good. It does what a lot of movies on friendship try to do but can't. This movie made me care for the characters, situations, and there feelings. I really enjoyed the relationship between the two boys and how there friendship develops. They make a great team.
The acting is suburb in this movie. Elden Ratliff does an excellent job with his character Max Kane a.k.a. "The Mighty". He is fabulous in this movie and the perfect choice for that character. He does a great job. This man is a talented actor. His partner in crime Kevin a.k.a. "Freak" played by Kieran Culkin in a great performance as a crippled kid. These two kids work so great together on screen. This movie will definitely give them a boost in the acting world. All the supporting cast give nice performances but what really makes the movie shine is the performances of the two kids.
This movie isn't all fun and games though the director tackles some more harsh, scary, and sad material towards the end of the movie and one scene really got to me. During the end of the film I did cry, it's a touching movie what can I say? One thing I'm glad about is they didn't shy a way from the harsher material and made some happy go lucky movie. Chelsom doesn't hide the truth and that's one of the reasons why The Mighty is so good. I loved how Chelsom showed the movie through the eyes of the two kids. In conclusion the mighty shouldn't be missed.
