Top spy Moriarty is involved in a new surrealist send-up of the slasher genre. Father Geek is here to report that we at AICN are proud to announce that our own evil genius professor is at this very moment hard at work on WALTER DID IT, a spoof of the current crop of slasher spoofs that have infected our local movie houses. Good work landing the gig, Prof., and good luck to all involved from all of us here at Geek Headquarters.
"Moriarty" here.
Well, normally I write you to share news of other peoples' cool work. Today, we here at the Moriarty labs would like to share news that is, to us, the very epitome of cool, and we're hoping you'll enjoy it as well.
As you observed last week, one of the reasons I've always been a spy for your page is because I happen to love film. I live it. I breathe it. And now, it looks like I'm involved in one that you and your readers are going to be able to see as soon as this spring.
Yes, it's true. As of today, Labor Day, Moriarty's first film is rolling in front of cameras in Chicago, Illinois. Now, I'm going to try to maintain at least a shred of anonymity, so as to prevent Mark Steven Johnson or some other disgruntled hack from finding me and kicking my ass, so I'm not going to tell you what I have to do with this picture.
It's low budget, no doubt about it, but it was written to be exactly that kind of film. It's a surrealist riff on the current spate of masked slasher movies that are back in vogue, and it's also a canny look at the way roommates relate. The film is called WALTER DID IT. It's a Phydeux Productions Picture in association with 2WhiteGuysOnACouch, Ltd.
The excellent crew is made up of faces that are familiar to commercial production in and around Chicago, and this is a big leap into features for many of them. That is, of course, the best kind of crew. They're all in it to make something special, something they're proud to have their names on. Look for director and executive producer John Terendy, editor and UPM Danielle Montana, writers and associate producers Drew McWeeny & Scott Swan, and producers Tom Makedon and Luke Bennet to all work their asses off to get this film in front of you early next year. The first time cast is made up of Tom Makedon, Mike Stratta, Luke Bennet, M.T. Cozzola, Tracey Stapleton, and Mark Sutton.
Now, of course this isn't the kind of film that's going to have every reader of your page drooling with anticipation when they read this. Rest assured, though, this is the kind of film that they're going to stumble across at some point and thoroughly enjoy. This is the result of people just like them making the effort, laying it on the line, and doing whatever it takes to get a film made.
WALTER has had a rocky history. It was almost made two years ago (actually, it was written pre-SCREAM, so any resemblance to this whole rash of movies since is coincidental), but things fell apart. Since then, it's almost happened a few times. That's why today is so special. The cameras finally roll. This is finally happening.
Here's hoping we're able to send you a copy very soon, Harry. Here's hoping this is the start of a whole batch of careers in indie cinema. Here's hoping the film lives up to the script, which is available at http://www.pacificnet.net/~noname/WalterDidit.html for those who'd like to take an early look at it.
Thanks in advance for running this, Head Geek. It's always been one of my favorite things about this site, that you support all cool films, whether they cost $100,000 or $200 million. Cool isn't about cost. It's about people doing something they love and sharing it, and that's this project all over.
Since my attention is needed elsewhere, I guess this is...
"Moriarty" out.
