Test Screening review of THE HOLY MAN... positive

I saw this film about 3 months ago and really enjoyed it. I've been meaning to write up a review of the film for all of you, but I keep putting it off. That's the problem with me, procrastination. The shocking thing to me about this little gem is how genuine it felt. It could have been very very artificial especially dealing with this subject matter, but it rings true. Anyway here's the Shylock's review...

I have not seen any buzz or reviews for Holy Man on this site or really anyplace else except a little column in Entertainment Weekly. I just saw it and I felt I should right up a review. The movie is pretty good and I would recommend it to most people. The film was a nice and interesting flick on friendship, morals, and how money can make you selfish and greedy.

The plot is about a failing TV-station manager who finds a religious man and turns him into a television evangelist to boast his ratings.

The acting was good all around. Jeff Goldblum who plays the TV station manager does a good job of convincing us that he is really a panicky TV station manager who can pull him self out of trouble.

Eddie Murphy was good as the TV evangelist who America falls in love with, because he is someone the audience can relate to and he turns it into a religious experience. He is way different in this movie his other rolls. I thought since it is a comedy he would be like some kind of crazy character like in the nutty professor but here he is the exact opposite. He is a calm, cool, and a nice religious man.

Kelly Preston who plays Jeff Goldblum's love interest in the movie also does a nice job. She is kind of like Jeff Goldblums better half, since she has the same job she but she stirs him a way from the bad (greed and money). She try's to get him to realize that Murphy's character is a friend and he should treat him like one and not just a person who can make him money.

The direction by Stephen Herek is also good in this movie it's nothing to droll over but it works for this kind of movie and it's setting. Holy man also has a nice message about getting in touch with your values and not getting caught up with material things. I was expecting to see a hilarious comedy like the Nutty Professor. Holy Man was funny but not hilarious but I wasn't disappointed with the film it more along the lines of dramatic comedy like Truman Show and if you liked the Truman Show you will probably like Holy Man too.
