This story comes from Spain, but hey, it matters not from what country news comes, were dealing with Fu Manchu the most dangerous criminal mind of our time!!! From Karloff to Henry Brandon to Christopher Lee I've been a fan. As for this Alex de la Iglesia... well I'd welcome some tapes of his work as I am completely unfamiliar with his work. You '.es' folks chime us in. If you're familiar with his work Talk Back with us! I know I'm curious to hear more about him.
Hello Harry. Here is JRRR from Spain. As always, sorry for my English.
Alex de la Iglesia, one of the best young directors of our cinematography, is going to film a Fu Manchu movie, "The Mask of Fu Manchu", in two or three years after sight. It's going to be an american production with a screenplay by David Newman ("Superman", "Bonnie & Clyde"), posibly re-written by de la Iglesia and his usual collaborator, Jorge GuerricaecheverrÃa. It's yet too soon but maybe Jeff Goldblum will colaborate on the project.
I would like to suggest you, like a certain number of spanish fans of your site, that if you have the chance of watching anyone of the de la Iglesia movies don't waste it!!!! He has filmed only three movies: "Accion Mutante" (Mutant Action), a funny sci-fi movie, a genre that in spanish cinematography is very little used; "El dÃa de la bestia" (The day of the beast), his best film, a must-be-seen film for any geek, pppllleeeaaassseee, see this movie if you have the chance; "Perdita Durango", not as good as it promised at the beginning, but with a superb performance of Javier Bardem as Romeo Dolorosa, the real main character of the film. If you see anyone of his movies you will realize that "The Mask of Fu Manchu" can be a great movie. Now he is filming (he started yesterday) a spanish movie with two great actors: Santiago Segura, director of the blockbuster movie in Spain "Torrente, el brazo tonto de la ley" (Torrente, the silly arm of the law.... well, the title is a joke of the Stallone movie "Cobra", that was retitle in Spain as "Cobra, the strong arm of the law", but the Segura movie is far better than the Cosmatos film); and the other actor is El Gran Wyoming (eh.... The Great Wyoming.... yes, in Spain we are a little crazy). They are two great, funny and very known actors here in Spain, but I'm afraid that this movie is only going to be enjoyed by spanish viewers, becouse it will contain a lot of jokes and references of the TV shows of the 70's and 80's. But it will be a sure hit here, in the country of the bullfighters, next year. The title of this movie is "Muertos de risa" ("Died of laughing"). It's the story of a couple of comicians that hate and love each other during twenty years of changes in the social and political situation here, in Spain. It's written by de la Iglesia and GuerricaecheverrÃa.
