Hardly anyone has seen Helgeland's first directoral effort, a film starring Mel Gibson called PAYBACK. I have. This tough as nails flick is one of the coolest films in years, at least in Helgeland's original director's cut. Rumor has it that Paramount has demanded additional action scenes, something Brian's cut didn't really need. Well, it's nice to see Brian hitting the film can again quickly. After such a wonderful film (review coming soon) it'd be a pity to see him lose heart after a genius (ironic title) in a suit fidgets. Sigh. Give Brian his cut!!!! Oh, and the below scoop. I'd appreciate any additional info anyone could give me. Thanks...
I met this years screenplay Oscar-winner Brian Helgeland at the international film festival in Haugesund, Norway last week. He told me that his second movie as a director will start filming in Prague in February. The movie is currently titled "The Sineater". Or that's at least what I think he said. Darn. I should have asked him to spell it to me.
It's going to be a scary horror movie similar to The Omen and Rosemary's baby. He revealed to me that Antonio Banderas may play the villain, The Sineater (or what the heck it was...), but he wasn't sure yet. He was still working on the other parts, and he would know more later in the week. That was last week. So now, maybe there are some more casting news out there, just waiting to be scooped?
