Whoa! Harry here, and folks - this might be the baby steps towards changing the whole way films get to you, me and them. Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Steven Soderbergh has decided to do something completely unprecedented. He signed a 6 film deal with a company called 2929, which apparently owns MAGNOLIA PICTURES & LANDMARK THEATERS & HDNet Movies cable channel. These 6 films which he'll produce and/or direct will simultaneously be distributed at Landmark Theaters, broadcast on HDNet's Movie cable movie channel and hit stores on DVD & Home Video. Allowing you to choose how you wish to see the film. One can only assume that the marketing for this would allow for the advertising money to be spent to sell all 3 outlets of distribution at the same time, combining these budgets into one larger media push.
Just leave it to Steven to completely throw a monkey wrench into the established way of things. To shake it all to hell and see if it breaks or flies. The first film is called BUBBLE and is a murder mystery set in a small Ohio town! This will be an interesting experiment. How would you watch his films?
