Very Bad Things is in Hallenbeck's top three of the year thus far, and he raves about it like a sex starved teen at a pig pen. SuuuuuuuuuuuuuEEEEEEEE.... He's a sick puppy, but here we have another review that agrees with the almighty impotent one. So read on, this sounds like it could be one hell of a winner.
I had the privilege of seeing Peter Berg's writing/directing debut Very Bad Things a couple of days ago. The movie is about a group of friends who head to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. Things start to go wrong and someone is killed. Soon, the bodies are piling up and the friends find themselves turning against one another as the cover-up builds.
This film is awesome, with great dialogue, cool characters, and great direction by Peter Berg who by this film shows he will be a forced to be reckoned with. I really liked this one because it wasn't just another Tarantino or Coen brothers rip off. Peter Berg took a plot we have seen many times before and made it into something totally original.
The acting was good on all parts. All the actors did a great job at who they were portraying whether it would be a groom (Jon Favreau), a family man (Daniel Stern), a psycho real estate agent (Christian Slater), a bride who just wants the perfect wedding (Cameron Diaz), and there were 2 more co stars but I don't know there names. I really liked Daniel Stern's performance because this is way different from the other roles he usually plays and he does a great job with his character. Also Christian Slater was very fun to watch on screen and I hope this movie helps his career.
What I really enjoyed about this movie was that Berg took people with totally different personalities and showed how they would react to the same situation. He makes you fell like you are right there with them and a part of the movie. Since in it's a black comedy it has humor injected threw out the movie with is always good.
The mood and atmosphere were dead on for this kind of movie. Also He has those scenes and conversations that are just too cool, you know like the opening scene in Reservoir Dogs or the slow motion action scenes in John Woo's The Killer, that are just so cool.
This is a really original, ineteresting, and fun movie to watch and I think you will find it as a welcome change, to a plot which we have seen a million times.
