First General Admission (paying audience) showing of Starship Troopers!!!

You see that ticket there. That was the first general admission screening of STARSHIP TROOPERS!!! And read the response. These people loved it. I'll let you in on a secret. Come in real close. All you geeks out there. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!! How do I know? Well I've seen a rough cut, I ain't saying how, or even review it cause until I see it on the big screen... I haven't seen it at all. Besides this was missing about 30% of the effects. But suffice to say, this movie will blow you GEEKS' heads.... CLEAN OFF. (unless of course you are a Heinlien word for word type, in which case I say, Lighten Up)

First Mr FedEx sent in this one!!! And lest you think these be planted reviews, know that I am familiar with these spies in an Email sense.

starship troopers had it's first public showing last night, at the hollywood theatre in toronto. we recieved this showing of the toronto film festival commitee, all prooceeds going to this fine organization. according to the spokesman from this group, this was the world premier "public" showing of the movie, and the only things missing were the opening and closing credits, it ran 2hrs on the nose without them. soundtrack, colour correction, and all editing seemed finalized and were in good shape. let me start by saying that this is a must see, and a welcome relief after the summers high priced pieces of crap. i have not read any of the source material, so i cannot say if it is a good reflection of it, but this movie stands by itself well. story: very tonge in cheek, not to be taken too seriously. previous comments of it starting like an episode of BH90210 are on the money, but thankfully theres not too much to sit through. the action sometimes defies logic, and any sense of millitary strategy, even to someone like me who only knows real time strategy warfare, but this comes across as part of the tonge in cheek apeal of the movie. there are lots of "newsreel" type of footage pieces used to move the story along, much like robocop or total recall, and it is put to good use, with wild cheers coming from the audience. performances: what can i say. not oscar calibur, but who cares. there adaquate for the story, and even though we don't care too much about the relationships, we all root for the good guys. acting actually fit in well with the "in joke" appeal of the movie, with the odd good one liner (unlike many recent movies) thrown in for good measure. remember "your enemy can't push the button if they can't reach it." special effects/action: this movie gave me the same feeling of awe that i got when i first saw jurassic park. it's that much of a leap in technology i believe. the effects were 100% finished and they were simply amazing. *but*. its not for small kids. there is a lot of gore in this movie. the battle sequences may not be strategically correct, but they are definately bloody. decapitations, empalings, brains being sucked out, live human BBQ's, plus many more grusome sequences may make this unsuitable for kids younger than 12 or 13. but this is a good adult action movie, on par with total recall and the uncut version of robocop i have seen on laserdisc. no one will be dissapointed with the bugs, and may people who hate BH90210 will secretely root for them, but not me of course........i mean it......... i swear........ overall: go see it period........nothing more........ anyway harry, i'm sure none of this is new to you, but just thought you might want to know. i've purposly kept it spoiler free, but you probably have the script anyway.

And now for El Jake Wood to talk about it. Now notice how his use of the word "cheese" differs from that of THE POSTMAN!!!

Well just got back from what the host called the first ever screening of the movie Starship Troopers to an audience, although i have a bit of trouble believing we were. anyway i have one to describe the movie. cheese...... but its good cheese infact its great cheese. You know how there is bad cheese,(Batman&Robin), and there is good cheese,(Star Wars). Well this is star wars cheese.

The movie was so fun, i have never been in an audience that has had so much fun since the original release of star wars.. clapping screaming and laughing, everyone loved it.... The movie was unique in the fact it set itself up like a WW2 propaganda film. It was very vehrhoven(sp) in the fact it was laced with news reports, ie Robocop, and even a bit of a showgirls nod in the shower scene. The FX had a very strong impact one that hasn't been felt since the first Jurasic park came out. Ironside was the best part his role will be remembered. the only negative thing i have to say is that there wasn't more Niel Patrick Harris, hes a very likable person on screen, infact i think he ccould have carried the movie as star if they gave him a chance..
