Super trippy and awesome!!! A SCANNER DARKLY trailer pops up online!

Hey folks, Harry here....

Seems there's some question as to WHY ANIMATE THIS. I'll tell you why. If you've ever read A SCANNER DARKLY - then you're probably aware that to do the story justice, it has to be done low budget. The subject matter, the heavy drug overtones, the stream-of-conciousness style of story-telling... Well, to produce the film responsibly... it had to be delivered on a price. A price that could lend itself to altering the very reality of characters, their guise, their image... the way things look. In addition - this particular process of enhanced rotoscoping... it allows for very realistic movement, motion and reality. And for the film to hit the surreal layers this story goes, it needs to be animated - a form that can go from very real to very surreal. This process is IDEAL for that. Ultimately, it's the method chosen by Linklater to tell the story, and frankly... This film won't be for everyone, but I'm here to tell ya know... this will be the most faithful in tone, the script is wonderfully written - and this is going to be one of the films we'll be talking about all year.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here checking in from lovely New Zealand. I'm stuck on dial-up, but when I saw Movie Box had posted a link to iFilm's posting of the trailer for A SCANNER DARKLY, I suffered through the half an hour download for 1 minute of footage. I'm glad I did...

I'm actually kind of freaking out... this is the first time I've posted on this vibrant new design for the site... I feel like I'm in Linklater's movie! I type regular words here and it comes out looking all funky and weird and different on the page!

Anyway, if you've not gotten to see this puppy in the theaters (like me, since Wellington doesn't get CONSTANTINE until next week), give it a click below. I can't wait to see this trailer move 35 feet high!
