Dreamwork's SHREK information

Well here are a few tidbits on SHREK, sounds like a pretty cool flick, and with Mike Myers as a vocal talent we're sure to have a lot of fun with that character. If ya have any additional info on this film, let me know, I'm closely tracking all the animation projects around...

Dreamworks has finished casting several actors to play the voices of characters in its much plagued animated feature "Shrek." Mike Myers will play the title character, a monster who was originally going to be voiced by the late Chris Farley. The film will also feature voices by Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, John Lithgow and Linda Hunt.

Originally to be animated at DreamWorks it went through several directors and was originally going to use motion capture instead of hand animating (via computer) the characters to get Chris Farleys very physical comedy. Katzenburg hated the results he saw, and scraped the whole idea of motion capture for the film. The great early work by PDI on ANTZ as well as the fact that Dreamworks purchased a large share of the company convinced them this should go over to PDI. Then as we all know Chris Farley Died and not much has been heard about it until now. It's currently slated for release in 2000.
