Will HITCH make you believe in love or leave you bickering over money'

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here... So... Here we have a look at HITCH, the romantic comedy starring Will Smith and the King of Queens. Will Smith has got a whole lotta chemistry, but the trailer smacks of "trying to hard" to me. However, the below reviewer assures us that the Kevin James/Will Smith stuff is damn good and the center of the movie. I'd be only too happy to enjoy a fun romantic comedy. I'd definitely prefer to enjoy this flick then want to put a bullet in my brain while sitting in the theater, that's for damn sure. Enjoy!

Hi Harry:

First time, long time. Just call me David Aames for the purpose of this review:

Screened "Hitch" last week - hard to believe it's Will Smith's first romantic comedy. Guess he wanted to take a break from saving the world. The premise finds Will playing Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, a "date doctor" who gives advice to schlubs to land the women of their dreams. He only works on referral, so his identity is a bit of a mystery,

Hitch's latest client is a meek accountant (Kevin James) who has fallen head over heels for his client Allegra Cole (don't you love movie names?). Hitch has his hands full teaching Albert how to act around this socialite-heiress. Meanwhile, Hitch begins dating a gossip columnist (Eva Mendes) who's heard of the date doctor, but doesn't know that Hitch is the date doctor, Romance ensues, identities are revealed, blah blah blah.

My biggest problem with the movie is that Will Smith and Eva Mendes have ZERO chemistry. Mendes is okay playing the law enforcement agent in movies like "2 Fast 2 Furious" and "Out of Time" but as a romantic lead, she has no charisma. None. She's not even that sexy (in this movie at least.) Ironically, the chemistry between Will Smith and Kevin James is a hundred times better. Their developing friendship is the best part about this movie, which at nearly 2 hours, is WAY too long.

Smith deserves better material. Once again, the funniest moments are in the trailer. And, in what's becoming the worst trend in movies, before the credits there's a "dance" scene with Will, Eva and Kevin that's downright obnoxious. It says "Look at how much fun we had shooting this movie." What they should be saying is "Look how much more fun we had than you did watching this movie."

Thumbs down. Don't get sucked into the Valentine's Day marketing campaign that's surely going to accompany this movie.
