The Brits got the “24” season-three DVD long before the Americans, but the American version – which hit Yankee shelves Dec. 7 - has an extra not available on the U.K. version: a 6.5-minute season-four prequel that will likely never air on Fox uncensored. The first scene, set three months after Jack sawed off his ex-partner’s hand, gives us a tiny taste of what an R-rated Jack Bauer motion picture might look like, and a reason to understand why Jack might be savoring his early “day four” encounter with a CTU director to whom he no longer reports.
If the salty DVD-only prequel whetted your appetite for next week’s big four-hour Jan. 9-10 “24” launch, there’s a DVD inside the current, hard-to-fold “Best of 2004” edition of Entertainment Weekly that contains the first 24 minutes of the season opener.
