Bob Weinstein pushing for a PG-13 CURSED' Biiig mistake!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some rather alarming news to me. Bob Weinstein is apparantly pushing for Wes Craven to cut down CURSED to a PG-13, according to Craven in an interview he did with Fangoria. Now, I have seen CURSED (read my review here) and while it's not a great movie, it's far and away better than the trainwreck I was expecting. Rick Baker's design of the main werewolf and KNB's marvelous execution is heads and tails above any werewolf work done in recent memory.
My problem was with the last act of the film, which has been shot at least twice. I know what Mr. Weinstein is thinking... PG-13 horror films like THE RING have made a ton of money. If he can get the kids in there without having to get their parent's permission, he'll have a bigger audience to shoot for. But he needs to ask himself what's best for the film, which is ultimately best for his pocketbook.
In my review I plead to keep this film R-rated, especially if they're not going to try to rework the last act. Horror lovers can get behind a flawed movie if it has inventive and cool gore and great monster. If the film is cut to a PG-13 it will only have a cool monster, but in this particular film if we don't see that amazingly over-the-top mauling of the first victem the werewolf will lose some of its threat. It'll make the Parking Lot sequence (my favorite in the film, a cat and mouse play between the werewolf and its lunch) less threatening and intense.
SCREAM was rated R and that was part of its appeal. If you go back and watch the first SCREAM flick you'll probably be surprised at how gory and intense it is. That's what people grabbed on to. It was just as gory as the films it was referencing. If Mr. Weinstein is worried about the film, then sit down with Craven and Williamson and whatever other writers and EFX guys you have and nail down a strong ending... I know you've shot it twice, so maybe there was a better ending before and all that needs to be done is to spend some more time on the Avid. Cutting this film down to a PG-13 will, pardon the pun, bite Weinstein in the ass. You'll get more people in the theater, but few will return and fewer still will buy the DVD.
Ultimately, Mr. Weinstein can and will do what he wants and it's not like I'm arguing for a movie that's perfect, but all I want is a fun werewolf flick that I wouldn't mind watching every few years, which is what they have right now. I've seen this movie and I can tell you right now... without the gore it's not worth shelling out the $8 bucks for. End rant here.
