Wanna meet Alan Lee' Sure you do! Info here!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some nice info for some of you lucky geeks out there. I got to meet Alan Lee when I visited the ROTK set last summer during pick-ups and I can vouche for him being one of the kindest people in the world. The level of talent this man has at his disposal is so awe-inspiring it's not even funny. I resisted the urge to beg him for a sketch throughout the entire month I was around until one of my last days, which coincided with Ian McKellen's wrap party. Mr. Lee was hanging out on the outdoor set of Minis Tirith when I approached him with my sketchbook. In honor of Sir Ian's last day of shooting, he quickly drew out a superb Gandalf for me while standing in the streets of Minis Tirith that is now one of my most prized possessions. Unfortunately, a man by the name of Tim Bradstreet has hijacked my sketchbook and is currently holding it for ransom, but that's another story!

Now Mr. Lee is touring the US in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the printing of Tolkien's LORD OF THE RINGS (and also promoting this awesome looking LOTR book which has all three books in one big tome, as Tolkien always wanted it to be). If you can make it to any of these cities I highly recommend it. An autographed Alan Lee super-special LOTR bible would make an amazing Christmas present for any self-respecting geek. Just seeing him present some of his original illustrations is worth paying him a visit by itself. Damn, I wish he was coming to Austin! Anyway, here's the info!

Celebrate 50 years of THE LORD OF THE RINGS with Alan Lee!

As part of its on-going celebration of the 50th anniversary of the original U.S. publication of The Fellowship of the Ring (the first part of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic The Lord of the Rings), Houghton Mifflin, Tolkien's official U.S. publisher for over sixty years, is proud to tour world-renowned artist Alan Lee across the United States. Lee has won international acclaim for his illustrations of Tolkien's books, and he was also one of the conceptual designers on New Line Cinema's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, for which he earned an Academy Award.

Lee will be on a nationwide tour December 4 -- December 11 to discuss his long involvement in bringing the visual world of Tolkien to life. Lee's presentation will include a slide show and a display of a dozen original illustrations, followed by a Q&A with fans and a booksigning.
