John Landis News'! REALLY'!'

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

That’s right. John Landis is actually getting ready to head back behind the camera. Sure, he’s been doing things like the documentary SLASHER (which was a fun character study) and is also preparing to do an episode of the sure-to-be-fun anthology series MASTERS OF HORROR, but it’s been a while since we’ve had a full-blown John Landis big-budget comedy in theaters.

That’s what makes this tidbit so much fun:

John Landis has just signed to direct "Real Men", an original screenplay by Dan O'Dowd, for the Mount Film Company. "I'm very excited to be working with John again", said Mount. "our experiences at Universal, from "Animal House" to "Blues Brothers" were great fun and profitable".

O'Dowd has also written "Starchild", which has Tim Allen attached to star, which was optioned by Icon Films and the Robert Evans Company.

Co-Executive Producers are Chris Kobin (who produced Landis' last film, "Slasher" for IFC, and co-wrote the upcoming horror/comedy "2001Maniacs" directed by writing partner Tim Sullivan and starring Robert Englund) and David Jones.

“Real Men” is an outrageous comedy about an impromptu football game between a gay team and a straight team that attracts world wide attention. It will start in summer 2005 with an anticipated budget in the $35-45 Million dollar range.

The film is currently out to talent.

Thom Mount played a huge part in that early amazing part of Landis’s career. AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, BLUES BROTHERS, and ANIMAL HOUSE were all made during his time at Universal. The idea that he’s working with Landis on this new film gives me real hope that it might be something fun. I’m going to do my best to peek at the script and maybe even (fingers crossed) talk to Landis about it in the weeks ahead. For those of us who remember the glory days with real fondness, this is the kind of news that puts a smile on the face this morning.

"Moriarty" out.
