A Sharp Dressed Man reports in on Kevin Williamson at the San Diego Comic Con.

Well geeks here's a report on Kevin Williamson's presentation out in Southern California. It's great to see The Faculty showed up at the world's largest gathering of comicbook/fantasy freaks. That trailer is probably an early cut though. Robert told us last week that Harry was definitly in the final release trailer.Robert's been on a real backbreaking schelude editing the film, and you can take Father Geek's word that this will be one flick that's gonna really rock n roll. Now to our dapper spy's report.

Sharp Dressed Man here.

San Diego Comic-Con this year also featured a panel with Kevin Williamson, writer of SCREAM 1 & 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, etc. So I made my way to the big-ass auditorium as the last of the Sailor Moon fans were exiting the area (the creator of sailor moon, by the way, is quite a dish. I considered asking her if she was single, but then again she doesn't speak english. The mood in this room was somewhat hostile. perhaps it was the snooty miramax woman telling the lady behind me who was intent on filming the panel for a relative whose disabilites prevented them from attending to put away her camcorder, or the hisses generated at the mention of Dawson's Creek, but you couldn't really sense the love in the room. I understand that since a rough cut of The Faculty's trailer was being shown, security was tight. Kevin Smith tole the audience to 'just punch him' if you see someone filming the clip from Dogma. But the attitude of this Miramax person... not good.

Of note- SHOWING OF FACULTY TRAILER! pretty smart. I think this is gonna be the unexpected runaway hit that scream was 2 years ago if miramax doesn't over-play it like I'm kind of sensing is happening with the Tommy hilfiger tie-in. Lots of shots of all the different kids, a sinister looking Robert Patrick and Jon Stewart. Alas, no Harry, No Salma in the trailer. I bought the script the previous day, being one of two movies I'm really pumped up for this holiday season. It won't disappoint. I promise.

-Explanation of Killing Mrs. Tingle. This is the other movie i'm really pumped about, 'cause of katie holmes, kevin's directing debut, and having what I feel to be a connection to this flick. the Plot involves a group of students taking their loathsome history teacher hostage when a visit to her house to plead for mercy in a mistaken case of cheating turns sour. I'm sure everyone has had a teacher they will consider to be as evil as mrs. tingle when they see the movie, but when you had an english teacher that RESEMBLES helen mirren, (the title role), it really hits home. I got the script for this one too, and i'm just as excited. Hitchcock for the Scream generation.

-THE QUESTION WE'VE ALL WANTED TO ASK KEVIN WILLIAMSON. I couldn't resist. so when the moderator guy pointed to me, I belted out

'Scream 2. WHY RANDY???'

The crowd stirs in agreement, anger at me for asking such a 'ridiculous' question ( a lot of really uptight people go to comic book conventions, i've learned), asking each other 'who's randy?', etc:::

Kevin: 'Because of the reaction of the audience just now. [we did it to really shock the audience and shock sidney]'

I was kinda shocked that he could off a character that was so beloved with out much batting of an eye, but I realized that that's what good horror is about. keeping you on your toes. so I gave applause. Finally, he seemed rather bitter about the situation of the Scream II onthe internet fiasco, although they leaked red herrings themselves. so it'll be real fun trying to get him to sign my copies of killing mrs. tingle and the faculty tomorrow.. oh well i'll have a honey on my arm..

SDM checking out, GOD DAMNIT I MISSED THE VAMPIRES SCREENING!! NO NO NO !!! oh well i'm gonna meet john carpenter tomorrow.. hope he'll autograph my copy of Big Trouble in Little China...
