Here's a glimpse of pure imagination! Our first look at Depp as Wonka!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a look at the new candy man, Arthur Slugworth's rival, Mr. Willy Wonka! There are few people who love WILLY WONKA AND CHOCOLATE FACTORY more than I do. Gene Wilder is amazing and perfect as Wonka and I wouldn't trade that film for the world, but that doesn't mean I'm not excited to see what Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have in store for us. As much as I love the original film, it falls into the same category as THE SHINING. Brilliant movie, perfect at what it aimed to be, but it's not the book. Can Wilder's Wonka coexist with Depp's more accurate to Dahl's book? I certainly believe so. Depp's at his best when playing eccentric characters and there is none more eccentric than Willy Wonka.

Here's the link... keep in mind that this is from a tabloid and while more than likely authentic, it might not be 100% accurate to what we'll see in the film. Remember the first glimpse of Frodo we got was a grainy telephoto shot from above Elijah Wood as he walked around with a styrofoam plate in his hand. Hopefully, those glasses are Depp's off-set attire... That hat is absolutely perfect, though.
