Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Well, seems it’s a Lions Gate acquisition that will be opening before the end of the year. It played out of competition at the Venice Film Festival, and this is one of the first reactions we’ve gotten in here at AICN:
This is the 1st time i am writing in, but i just saw a preview of this fabulous film starring John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson.
This is the feature film debut by writer/director Shainee Gabel, whose only prior venture into filmaking was the documentary Anthem.
The story is loosely adapted from an unpublished novel that was read by Gabel when she was editing Anthem in New Orleans. The author of that novel is actually the father of the man who writes all of the original music in this film.
I don't want to get too detailed, but this is a story of a young girl (Scarlett) who returns home to a town located on the edge of New Orleans upon news of her Mothers death. She has had no real relationship with her mother, and can barely form any vision of her mother in her mind.
She returns to learn that two men (Travolta & Gabriel Macht) are living in her mother's home. They are two middle-aged alcoholics whose only concern is making sure that they do not get kicked out of the home which rightfully belongs to Scarlett. The film evolves from this basis, and branches out into the realtionships the moher had with the people in New Orleans, and Scarlett begins to learn about her past via Travolta's character.
All 3 actors that i mentioned turn in fantastic performances, as well as being supported by a top notch ensemble cast. This movies is not being released until the last week in December, and i'm sure that is part of a plan to garner some oscar nods for the vast.
This is an amazing film debut for a 1st time writer/director. The New Orleans backdrop is beautiful and the soundtrack is amazing. This is a must see film. i was lucky to be able to catch it so far ahead of its release.
Well, I’m curious based on the cast, even if the synopsis doesn’t blow me away. Anyone know if there’s a trailer out there yet?
"Moriarty" out.
