I just got back from a screening of “Surviving Christmas” and besides the fact that it’s released in OCTOBER. I don’t think anybody’ s going to be surviving this.
Don’t get me wrong, James Gandolfini is a great actor but he can do better than this while he’s on a break from the Soprano’s. And Ben Affleck is just doing another poor film choice and it looks like he’s not going to be getting hit like his buddy Matt has been lately.
Ben stars as the over-joyous Drew Lathem, who decides to rent himself a family for the holidays. Oh my, hilarity must ensue? Christina Applegate is still looking good this year, but even her body couldn’t save the disaster.
The film’s basically the same Hollywood trash. Several embarrassing and crude situations ensue as Ben spends time with this family. One or two of the gags were pretty funny, but most of this was like an SNL skit that shouldn’t have gotten the green light to be made into a movie.
Gandolfini’s character was even a bit humorous as the scarier than shit Dad of the family. But his character is even tuned down a few notches as we near toward the end.
So I think around October, try and make a better choice than this. But if you really have no substitutes, then go see this if you must.

Hmmmm... is this a case of a trailer that’s better than the film? I guess we’ll see in a few weeks.
