Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
All I know about this one so far is that it’s got a pretty good cast. Let’s see what else we can learn from someone who’s had a peek at it:
Ciao Harry
I just caught what we were told was the first screening of the movie, "Wedding Crashers", starring Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, and Christopher Walken. To check for authenticity this was at the Regal 6 in Old Town Pasadena.
Lets cut the crap and get right to it. This is the next Old School. And if anyone calls me a plant they can feel free to come over and water me. I'm talking to you talk-backers.
Lets break it down:
THE GOOD: Maybe Vince V's best comedic performance yet. Its like he took his character from Old School and just let it explode. Awesome psychopathic sarcastic humor here. The actress who plays the "Level 5 Clingy Virgin" who gets obsessed with him is also just awesome. The two of them almost steal the show. I want to see more from her. The movie I think is funniest when it gets clever rather than falling short for easy, sexual humor. Lets also not ignore yet another great Will Farrel cameo. This one will have fans screaming for meatloaf (find out next april).
THE BAD: Let me say this first: I am a guy and I am straight. Now that we got that out of the way...this movie has too much T&A. In fact, the movie feels cheapened by it. The movie is sharp and funny without it. It really felt out of place. There were times when the movie had some sexual humor and it felt appropriate (the plot is about picking up chicks at weddings after all) but the mood most of the time is much more like Meet the Parents. They should cut it down to an Old School level if they feel they need it to sell the movie.
THE UGLY: The entire character played by Dr Quinn Medicine Woman needs to go. Really awkward, and not in a good way. Also non resolving. Bad stuff here and very easy to cut out.
WISHES: I really wanted more from Rachel McAdams. It felt like they kind of pushed aside her plot with Owen Wilson in favor for the Vaughn humor...but they ignored the fact that we actually care about the story as well! She was also a big selling point for me to want to come to the screening so I WANT MORE RACHEL!
LAST RANDOM THOUGHTS: Dont ask me why this came to mind but I thought the men's wardrobe was really cool. I found myself wanting certain shirt-tie combinations i saw in the movie. This hasn't happened to me before in a movie and quite frankly I'm worried. * * Also, there is a touch football scene that totally outdoes the Meet the Parents pool vollyball scene.
I really hope they take the comment card suggestions from everyone because I feel they can really have a great movie here. I mean, it was really really good as is, but some of the excessiveness and unbalanced plot with owen and rachel i think hurt it a little. They have until april 2005, hopefully they can fix it. I will definitely be seing it again.
