Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Here’s a giant grain of salt. You’ll need it for this one. Still, I had to run it just so you guys can share in the angst this idea caused in me:
Hello -
I'm a huge fan of your site, have been reading it since...what 1997?
I work in the Law profession, so it really breaks up the mundane days, reading your site. Keep up the good work.
Anyway, the firm I work at represents both actors and musicians from time to time. I've always wanted to share something in the way of news but have been unsure in the past if it was worth it.
I hear a rumor (print it as that anyway) that Sony are looking at redoing some of the MGM films that they now own. Which you may or may not already know....
Here's the most interesting : They're tinkering with the idea of remaking McQueen classic THE GREAT ESCAPE. Financials are being looked at as we speak (long ongoing process). It's being developed by (and this is where the legals come in...I'm sure you'll get my drift) by Mark Burnett and Sylvester Stallone, as a potential starring vehicle for the latter.
It'll be the same bag, just a little slicker, but circa 1940's still. They've been discussing the classic motorcycle flight from a squadron of Nazi soldiers. The motorcycle scenes were not in the real-life breakout but were added at McQueen's suggestion because of his own passion for motorcycles. Wonder if Sly's going to do the hair-raising 60-foot jump over a border fence?. Sly will play the McQueen part, who with his pals plot an escape from a German P.O.W. camp.
Sony's apparently keen to work with Stallone so this might also mean good news for his Rocky film. I can keep you posted on that.
I also know that the studio is doing a "Roadhouse" franchise for DVD. That's the Patrick Swayze thing. I think Swayze's involved in some capacity, but that's from different ears that one. Someone tells me the studio's doing a lot of DTV stuff for 2005, that being one.
That last part is definitely true. They’ve also announced a WAR GAMES 2 DTV sequel. So could they really be looking at a GREAT ESCAPE remake? And if so, do they really think Stallone’s the right man for the job?
I guess time will tell...
"Moriarty" out.
