This is the next screening I'm hosting here in Austin on Thursday, September 23rd at the Alamo Drafthouse Village with John Waters and the dear Selma Blair to thrill us with the tales of making such A DIRTY SHAME. The show is claimed to be sold out, that's because, before I could even mention the show on the site, anticipation was so great, that people descended upon the village like the Indians upon Custer or the Zulu upon those British Soldiers or like me upon the nearest dessert. Yes, those tickets were devoured. BUT - Fear not - hope, while very nearly gone for you, is still there. Even now as you read this, discussions are being had between Tim League and I... I attended the U.S. Premere of John Walters new film "A Dirty Shame " in Baltimore, MD at the Senator theater on tuesday September 14th and it was a time to be had !
This was my first ever "Advance Screening " of a film that had not been seen by american audiences , and i am totally envious of all the test screenings that i read on your site all the time , so now it was my turn.
A Dirty Shame had in attendance John Waters, Selma Blair, Johnny Knoxville, Mink Stole, Patty Hearst, and a large number of extras.
The show started with a sidewalk dedication of the films premire with the event cast in cement in front of the theater with the films title and stars signing their names
After that the stars entered the theater and were automatically pounced upon for autographs and pictures
Got John Waters and Knoxville's signature ......hee heee !!
But then it was show time -
Folks , let me tell you i have never laughed so hard at a film so much and so consistantly as i did with "A Dirty Shame" i was never a big fan of John Walters filmmaking but this one WAS a laugh a minute.
The flick does'nt deserve its NC17 rating, but its because of dialog and some quick shots of male frontal nudity -THAT IS IT FOLKS !! If the MPAA wasnt full of old farts that understood a parody film when it was presented to them , this really should have been rated R...If There's something about Mary can get away with a jizz joke this one SHOULD have passed with an R
No graphic sex acts no real total gross out stuff here . No worse that what is presented in any normal online chatroom...and we all know what goes on there
Let me take 2 minutes here and say that Johnny Knoxville flat out steals the show from the whole cast ....You know him from Jackass , But let me tell you he is the man in this flick ,His performance is amazing and hysterical at the same time . It's as if Waters wrote this part for him . As "Ray Ray"- the leader of the sex addict deciples you almost forget this guy was getting kicked in the nuts for a living only a few years ago
Tracy Ullman is equally funny here as well playing a frumpy convience store clerk who is disgusted with sex only to be sexully reborn due to a concuccion only to find out she is the 13th aposile brought fourth to show the minions the newest way to achive the highest orgasam .
Look i don't know how to really write reviews very well so i'll cut this short
Seek out this film ...It is definetly worth the drive
